About Me

CuraƧao
It is the year 2007 and Charles McDonald has decided to take a Gap year. I am sailing from Cape Town to St. Helena, then to Ascension, then Fernando, then Fortaleza and ending up in Trinindad in the Caribbean. I will then go to the North section of the Caribbean and try and find work for about 6 months. And then to England in September.

Day 4 31st December 2006 Sunday

The last and probably the worst day of the year. I had just stepped below for a sleep having just put the parasailor up for the first time. I felt the boat swinging around from my bunk and new something had gone wrong. I leapt onto deck and tore the spinnaker down in a mad frenzy and then pulled the main down. When I got back to the cockpit I found the rudder in the cockpit. Tom had been helming at the time and the Rudder’s fittings had ripped off the hull of the boat, or to be more precise the bolts holding the rudder to the boat had sheered.

Bummer about the rudder - any ideas why it ripped off yet?
I had a look at www.parasailor.co.za - this parasailor spinnaker looks pretty radical.
