About Me

Curaçao
It is the year 2007 and Charles McDonald has decided to take a Gap year. I am sailing from Cape Town to St. Helena, then to Ascension, then Fernando, then Fortaleza and ending up in Trinindad in the Caribbean. I will then go to the North section of the Caribbean and try and find work for about 6 months. And then to England in September.

Day 46 11th February 2007 Sunday Position @ 0900 S03°49.952 W032°24.351

So, we are leaving in the morning. It has been a good few day on Fernando, a little bit expensive but well worth the visit. Managed to buy some diesel and get emails home to say all is good, which is really the purpose of the visit. We spent most of our time on the boat but when we went ashore, we went to this one little bar. The bar is a wooden boat with a bell and steering wheel, rather authentic really. On top of this it served Capirinhi, a Brazilian drink made out of Cachaca, limes, and crushed ice. Cachaça (also called pinga, caninha, aguardente, cana, or mé) is the most popular distilled alcoholic beverage in Brazil. The average Brazilian drinks about three gallons of Cachaça annually.[1] Cachaça is, "...the product of the distillation of fermented sugarcane juice, with its alcohol strength between 38% and 48% by volume.
