About Me

CuraƧao
It is the year 2007 and Charles McDonald has decided to take a Gap year. I am sailing from Cape Town to St. Helena, then to Ascension, then Fernando, then Fortaleza and ending up in Trinindad in the Caribbean. I will then go to the North section of the Caribbean and try and find work for about 6 months. And then to England in September.

And so.... it ends!

The title to this post isn't really valid but heck it's a title. Haven't really been keeping you all updated on my time here so I am sorry about that. Arrived here, St. Martin, on the 28th of March. Today is the 30th of April. Tomorrow I set sail for Antibes in the South of France we will probably be stopping in the Azores though. I am going on the good old Wild Tigris. So today is my last day on St. Martin. The island is known as the Friendly island, and that it is. Can't keep up with the names and all the rest. Looking through my cell phone address book is a tedious task these days.

I am not going to be telling you my plan anymore because it seems to change on a daily basis. When I arrive in Antibes and have booked my train/flight to the next place I will post where I am going but not going to tell you my plans anymore, sorry.

The Soggy Dollar Bar must be mentioned. If you ever visit the Caribbean I suggest you try the BVI's and St. Martin, Cuba would be a good stop to if you are a music lover. Now when you come to St. Martin you must do three things, plain and simple. The first is to visit Sunset Beach. Try and get down there at about 5 in the morning, before the sun comes up. Watch the sun rise and then experience a plane flying right over your head. NB the wind must be in the right direction. The second thing is climbing Mount Concordia in the middle of the island, I didn't take my camera unfortunately. The view from the top is absolutely superd. And then the third thing you must do is visit the Soggy Dollar Bar. I spent many a happy night here and it was absolutely fantastic. They have a bar (Surprise!), pool table, dance floor, and shower (thus the soggy dollars). If you go often enough you will find you end up dancing soaking wet at 1 in the morning. Good Fun. It is not a family bar, as the DJ/Owner said many a time.

And that is about it. There are other things you should do but those, in my mind, are the most important.

And so.... it ends, well my time in the Caribbean ends. I will be reading my emails etc. until tomorrow midday. If we stop in the Azores I will probably put something up here. Anyway till then, bye from me.
