Have just squished another little irritating flying thing that bites, namely a mosquito. They have literally been eating me alive and my shoulders, feet, and arms are covered in itchy bites. I'm not one to whine, well I hope people don't think I am, but I have been sleeping badly these last few days, it is stinkingly hot at night and sometimes my next door neighbour leaves his music on all night. Last night he had the same whining tune on repeat for about three hours. I bared with it for a while before going over with the intention of telling him to turn it off. He wasn't there, and his boat was locked, possibly he had left it on to discourage thieves, I don't know, what I do know is that as a result I didn't get to sleep until 3 in the morning. Frustrating. Oh well.
Last night myself and Stuart walked into town to the closest supermarket, 45 minute walk, to buy fresh veg for the remainder of the trip. We are waiting for the new propellor to arrive courtesy of DHL. Of course they said 3-4 days it has been 8 which is a bit annoying! As a friend said in an email, wait for the expected date of arrival and then give it two weeks and you should have it. She, a sailor has stopped in Brazil before and had the same issue. Oh well. Life goes on onboard, today we did a bit more swimming and changed the oil in the engine. Not a lot really going on around here. Tomorrow we head for a market of sorts to look into buying some hammocks.
Tonight seems to be a blessed night, I sit on the boat at the marina and hear nothing except for the gentle slop of water against the hull, total peace. As another person said to me 'It must be peaceful bliss without any screeching siblings' well yes it is but I am, get this, missing them. My friends and family are really in another world and it would be wonderful to see them.
Of course I am looking forward to the Caribbean and all of its splendour and beauty, however, I do not know how I will stay there as a part of this Gap Year is meant to be spent in England. I will be visiting friends and family from when I was 5 and living in the UK. I set out intending on going to England in the later part of the year, during the Caribbean hurricaine season but find myself yearning to see them all. And then of course I spend hours thinking of when I will go back to SA and all the peoples' doors I will be knocking on and saying hi to.
Anyway enough babble from the strange sailor guy. Have you seen the Fugitive?
Start reading at the bottom and work your way up!
About Me

- CuraƧao
- It is the year 2007 and Charles McDonald has decided to take a Gap year. I am sailing from Cape Town to St. Helena, then to Ascension, then Fernando, then Fortaleza and ending up in Trinindad in the Caribbean. I will then go to the North section of the Caribbean and try and find work for about 6 months. And then to England in September.
