About Me

Curaçao
It is the year 2007 and Charles McDonald has decided to take a Gap year. I am sailing from Cape Town to St. Helena, then to Ascension, then Fernando, then Fortaleza and ending up in Trinindad in the Caribbean. I will then go to the North section of the Caribbean and try and find work for about 6 months. And then to England in September.

The First Day of A Great Trip Day 1 28th December 2006 Thursday

An emotional day, saying goodbye to one’s loved ones. Last night supper with Ian, Hamish, Lucy, Ants, and Erin, very nice. This morning breakfast at the Cape Grace with Dad, Hamish, Lucy, Des, Suzie, Ollie, and Ian Slatem; it is a tradition of us, the Argonauts, to have breakfast at the Cape Grace before doing an Atlantic crossing. Sailing today went alright. Unfortunately we went round Robben Island the wrong way contrary to the advice of many. Although it makes logical sense that the best side is the windward side of the Island, the leeward Side is in fact better as a result of the surrounding mountains, this meant we had very little wind for hours and hardly moved at all. Goodbye everyone, and Table Mountain.
